My first Decemeber shoot

I decided today that I would muck around with some makeup again and with the help of some friends who let me do anything to them, this was the result.

I am still very partial to black and white shots but I have thrown a couple of colour shots in here and there because the makeup was quite bizarre. Got to love "red stripe clothing" in the city. That is where I got the lovely goth black and a few other things.

Last night, December 1st 2008, we were witness to something quite special.
The Universe actually smiled upon us.
The eyes were created by Venus and Jupiter and the crescent moon completed the smile.
This is not photoshopped except for the colour of course. This was actually how it was in the sky.
I hope some of you managed to see this and smile back as I did.

Monkey yoga

Monkey YogaThis little cutie is the baby orang-u-tan living at Perth zoo. I thought he was worth watching for a little while as he seems to be a bit of a poser already. Flexible little bugger isnt he!

Dr sketchy's anti art class - boys boys boys.

This is my favourite photo from this shoot. So much so that I have also posted the black and white version also. I looks so much better when viewed large.

I went along to my very first "Dr Sketchy's Anti-art class at the Brisbane hotel on Monday night.

These fabulous classes are run on the first Monday of every month and it is for all the people who like to sketch live models. Some of them were really good and some were, shall we say, not so good. But everyone has fun. Nice little jazz track playing in the background or the dimly lit room. I was in heaven. Got to have baileys and shoot some pics! I had asked(ok, well begged) the lovely girls who run this If it would be ok for me to take some snaps instead of sketching. Stay tuned you may even see my snaps on their website!

We had two lovely boys as models on this night and thankfully if they minded their pictures being taken they didnt say so. The picture above is one of my favourites from the shoot. I love the veins on the shoulder and the arm. Of course, who doesnt like the look of a nicely buffed torso!

Of course for those of you who like backs, I couldnt disappoint you either.

This one underneath I quite like. Has so much emotion to it. On the one hand person a has decided to leave and already has turned his back and is walking away. Person b is holding on. Defeated but gently holding onto that last bit of hope. Could be friends or brothers. Ok Ok I know perhaps I am overthinking my shots and perhaps I am the only one who sees these things in them. Some photos do seem to have a story to tell you though be it true or fabricated.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them.

Pole dancing

I have been shooting ideas for my latest tafe assignment.

One of the chosen subjects were pole dancers. These girls are amazing with the strength they must have just to a) get in some of these positions and b) to manage to hold still for my camera for up to 8 seconds at a time! and c) to make it look so darn easy!

Whist it might sound like an odd way to spend an afternoon I actually had a lot of fun!

I presume to do this for a living one would have to be fairly young as I cannot even bear to think about what gravity would do to me should I try and hang upside down!

I have had a little play around with some collages too so I will see if I can pop them in here for you to look at also.

Angels and Demons.

DEMONS

TodayI spent the afternoon doing two of the things I love most.....makeup and photography.

The picture above is one of my favourite shots of Daneeka from today. I think maybe my favourite from all of them today. Below is one of my favourite shots of Jamie. Some others are further down in this post.

ANGELS

Now for those of you who dont know me very well, I am in the beauty industry and have done makeup professionally for about 20 years. I am also lucky in that I have a sister who is a hairdresser so she came along today to do the hairstyling for me.......a job she did perfectly.

I was wanting to shoot two very different models. One who was to be all dark and scary. Kind of demonic and evil looking. The other I wanted a beautiful, etheral look. Bright and pretty yet still kinda funky.

The models were 2 lovely young girls who work with me in my business. Thankyou to Daneeka, who is my dark demonic creation and also one of the therapists in my centre. the picture below is straight after I had done the makeup. We were still waiting on my sister getting to the shop to do their hair. I LOVE these contact lenses!.....scary scary stuff.

Thanks also to Jamie who is my bright, beautiful creation and also my work experience student.

Some of her shots are below. She was made for black and white pictures I think....or it could just be the fact I love black and white pictures!

It is so much easier to do this when you have models who will happily let you turn them into anything and will put up with contact lenses, glitter in their eyes and lipgloss in their eyebrows!

So, once again, thankyou girls.

There were many great photos but I will try to not put up too many. I would love to know what you all think.....that is if anyone actually reads my blog!

Finally I also took a few shots of them together.....I wanted an agels and demons look to it and as it turns out the girls didnt let me down. I like the shot and how completely opposite they look.

Kangaroos 18/09/08

I went out to do some snaps for tafe today so I would have a roll to develop last night. I couldnt help but throw a couple on my digital camera also so I could pop a couple of shots on here. This guy above was just hilarious! I cant say I have seen a kangaroo sit in the sun like this before!
They really are so lovely. This little family unit was just beautiful. Little joey was sleeping with his paws wrapped around his mum and the male was hugging and kissing the mum....or at least that is how it looks! Can you feel the love?
A little closer look at the joey....see the paws wrapped around mum. She isnt going anywhere whilst he is sleeping without him knowing about it!
They really enjoy lazing around in the sun. I am sure if he was a cat he would have been purring. He wasnt bothered at me being so close either which was great. I only had a 50ml lens on so I was pretty close!
I noticed this little joey is getting a little big for living at home. You can see his back feet sticking out also just under his chin. I think an eviction notice may be coming up for him!

Saturday's favourite shots

This Saturday I took the lads for a wander at King's Park. I snapped a few pictures and these were a couple of my favourites from the day.

The one above is the DNA tower at King's Park. i really liked it once I converted it to black and white.

This one is a childhood fancy really. I can never help myself from picking them, blowing the fragile seeds away and of course, making a wish.

Cant tell you what I wished for......it wouldn't come true if I did, now would it!

Tafe assignment ideas

I have an assignment coming up shortly on architecture photos that are abstract or geometric. I have to get a collection of 3 together of a similar theme. It is actually not as boring as I first thought. Initially I thought , oh joy, buildings......BORING!!! but it has actually been quite fun. I have been out snapping with my digital camera for ideas. The actual assignment is all on B+W film but I figure with the digital I can take lots of photos and settle on a location without wasting millions of dollars that I dont have.

Here are some of my favourites so far.
These for the curved type abstract theme.
I will return tomorrow with some more of my ideas. I have some for squares, curves and some other random ones that I like but havent quite "themed" yet.
Hope you like them!

Isnt she lovely

Isnt she lovely.....isnt she beautiful!

My gorgeous little niece is almost 1 year old.....my my how time flies.

My love for black and white photos is continuing. I like the blown out look to these. Yes, it was deliberate.

You will be seeing many more black and whites as I have just started my course at college and will be spending the next 6 months of it shooting black and white(slides and film) and developing them myself! how exciting!! If I cant photoshop them I had better get cracking on improving my photographic skills.

Another sea critter

If there was a king of the jellyfish kingdom this is probably him.

Some more sea critters

Cute little baby saltwater crocodiles. Who would think they could grow up big enough to eat you.
Ok, I have a thing for hands and feet. I dont think you often get to see these feet though.
He nicely put a big smile on for me!
Lastly I thought I would include a couple of the crays. Now I personally hate this kind of food but I am sure many a mouth will water looking at these! Bleeeuuurrrrgh.
